Whilst looking for images for a talk on the fossil record of vertebrates, I found this picture of a frog on a dime:
At an average length of under 8 millimetres, Paedophryne amauensis is the smallest amphibian ever discovered. Indeed, it is the most diminutive vertebrate species known to science, even tiddlier than the tiddliest tiddlers.
Discovered in Papua New Guinea, its name means 'child frog from Amau'. Perhaps spotting a line in novelty confectionery, National Geographic describes it as 'tinier than an M&M'.
What an extraordinary little creature.
